SNOW SCULPTING
I am one of the few snow sculptors in Australia.
I founded the Australian Snow Sculptors Assoc. which has a small but active membership.
We have successfully completed large works in community spaces in Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Canada and Australia.
I have designed and sculpted the Australian Snow Sculpture entries for the International Winter
Festival in Quebec, Canada, in 1991, the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in Norway in 1994, and
the Winter Olympics at Nagano, Japan, in Feb. 1998. Also for the Japan Cup in Hokkaido in 2001 and 2003 and the Sapporo Winter Festival in 2001 and 2003.
These large projects involve a team of sculptors working on site for about a week. The projects
involve complex management and planning; budgeting, fundraising etc, and interaction with the
organisers in the host counties.
The snow sculpture projects have given me valuable experience in dealing with the public and large companies who give us sponsorship.
I have negotiated significant sponsorship with Japan Airlines since 1998 and we now have a fruitful working relationship with the Australia Japan Foundation in Sapporo.
These international projects have also provided me with a wonderful influx of friends and
acquaintances in the many fields of Art and Design from many countries. My current skills and
abilities have benefited from this cultural diversity, and the opportunities for travel.
I have been fortunate in seeing many of the galleries and museums of London, Oslo, Paris, Tokyo, Kyoto, Sapporo, Nagoya, Hong Kong, Bangkok and New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, as well
as in Australia.
